Medical Students - Is That a Positive or Negative Development?
It was extremely difficult and it's really a very strong memory when the NHS came into existence. Things like my mother requiring surgery to correct for the damage that had been done when I was born put a huge strain on family resources. It wasn't going to come free. My father was on a relatively small wage as a welder, which is what his job was. So to see that changed, to think that everybody could be treated properly and when they need it was a wonderful step forward. In some respects it's changed, but in truth the medical students are just the same. They're wonderful young people who really do want to be looking after patients, doing the best for patients. We
