The Mass Exodus of Japanese Blood
We were born here and the Constitution protects us. The mass exodus begins. Beginning with Bainbridge Island, every district around Seattle rushes to meet its deadline to expel everyone of Japanese blood living within its borders. We only have a week to get rid of everything else we own. Icebox, sofa, rocking chair, mom's Edison phonograph, her black walnut piano, dad burns photos,. Bargain hunters, scavengers, swarm over our homes and businesses. I stand there for a very long time, letting the rain soak me, letting the shock run through me. No, they can't do this, we're American citizens.
