The Challenge of Databases
When you make database changes, you make them additively only. You can't take columns out of tables because you never know what's still dependent on those columns. Not all data needs to have a strong Schema; your code could be reacting to the shape. This is one of the places where I'm not a big document database guy, but where it fits into your ecosystem,. It does often give you, depending on what document database and how you're working with it, document databases aren't a monolith on their own. But allows you to have this flexibility of schema.
