The Importance of Experience in Software Engineering
The break point for being experienced where you can use the word experience with authority is five years. Our industry does a disservice to people because there's no consistent dual ladder. People don't have the patience to wait through an apprenticeship. If you are really serious about your profession you're going to be standing code for 30-40 years. Some of them go out and do a management track but most keep their craft.
