Regulations could range from everything like in regulations, or that your goods are maintained to the highest standards. But they could also be about personal relationships - merchants travelling to somewere like germany weren't allowed to marry local women. There's rules against gambling, or going to inns, or drinking too much. And all these things can be detrimental to the reputation back home. So if you insult the master of a company, there's a good chance yu ging to find yourself in a lot of trouble.
