The Germans Sleep on the Firestep
Soldiers in the front line, literally at the sharp end, sleep exactlyn that front n in that front line trench. They are literally the point of contact with the german army. There's no point in them being in dugouts because if the germans attack, there'll be no time to get back into the front line. So they literally sleep on the fire step. The men were exhausted. They were stressed out of their minds and exhausted. That explains a lot of what happened at christmas 19 14. It's so cold you're frozen to the bone. Your legs are covered in freezing, cold water.
