The Positives of Hip Hop Music

Keeping it real just means being true to yourself, trying to ascertain what really is going on around you. The musicians who made this music just use what was available to them there at the time. They didn't have instruments or classical musical training. This cut and paste approach is one of the things that really defines hip hop culture. My personal favorite era for hip hop is the early to mid 1990s.
