Why We Shouldn't Punish Drunk Drivers
Our brains answer these different questions using different processes. Intensions are useful for determining whether someone is good and trustworthy in general. But there's another process that looks at how much harm the person caused, because that tells us how much we should punish him for this particular incident. Our criminal justice system claims to adhere to the first argument: intention is what matters.
