The Addiction of Anzlinger
Anzlinger grew up surrounded by manual laborers, so the realities of drug addiction were very real to him. He recalls being sent to a drug store to pick up morphine for a neighbor's wife who suffered from addiction. We don't have statistics on drug use in Altoona at the turn of the 20th century. But what we understand now is that small rural towns tend to see just as much drug use as large cities.
