Alan Watkins in India in 1951-52
In 1951-52 England are pretty cocky on tour in those days. They send aside Brian Statham, maybe Derek Shackleton who had a huge first-class career. The only other names I immediately recognized were the Wicked Keeper Dick Spooner. And Alan Watkins, who we've talked about one particular innings in this series before. He bats the entire last day of the game to finish up on 137-not-out after exactly nine hours at the crease. Vito Man could take seven wickets in the match, and there's this quirk for the second test. Tom Graveney doesn't play in the first test, but he has to come back into the side.
