Women's Enfranchisement in the Shah's Political Project
The combination of these gestures at economic modernization combined with easing the hold of Islamist strictures on women reminds me a lot of, of MBS today. I think for the Shah, at least initially, the question of women's enfranchisement is not the primary one that he is invested in when it comes to reform. He is very much thinking about land reform. And again, it's exactly as kind of sort of articulated with the left,. It's part of this strange kind of push and pull between the Shah and the more radical demands that are coming from leftist groups.
