I think with Chinese and to learn the characters who are talking about a form of memorization. I would put in 30 minutes to an hour into learning characters. Any alphabet type writing system where you either 30 or 50 or 25 letters, you don't have to do that. Just by reading the language, you gradually get better and better at reading the language. So, you know, this sort of distinction of whether you're doing it for work or for pleasure is not so different.
