In 1888, Benjamin Harrison ran for president and won because of the tight electoral map. He was indifferent on his own presidency but decided to run again after a year in Africa shooting animals. When he lost that second election, he tried to start an anti-administrative state party called bull moose party. This is very much like what we're facing now with our current political climate.
