The Toppling of a Statue in Iraq
The toppling of the Saddam Hussein statue became a symbol of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Michael Georgi was in Fallujah at the time and saw Iraqis dismember, burn or even step on four Americans killed by Blackwater Security Group. A nine-year-old boy told him he had hung two corpses over a bridge with ropes attached to cars. The incident telegraphed the chaos that would ensue after U.S. troops entered Iraq 20 years later.
