The Importance of Material Design in Visual Software

Design is more than just the materials part of it, right? Why was that important? It's so important because I had an exhibition in France recently where I put the spotlight on the material design. When designers or anyone who are trying to build an application, they have to ask the question, is this important or not? If every button is high priority, nothing is high priority.
