If you go around china today you'll see areas of farming land where there are little tomb mines often perhaps even with flowers on them and i don't think we should think that it's gone. The people in the 17th and 18th century certainly thought that life would continue but at the same time society is developed in all sorts of different directions. We haven't talked about a cosmology of the heaven earth altars the sun and the moon you know so though it's all quite mixed and complicated and one reason we find china a bit enigmatic is because none of this is easily accessed you have to spend time reading about it.
