Is It a Highland or a Lowland Phenomenon?
There are amigrous clans which lack a chief, but have got a name. Most likely they are associated with a particular name and there is a named chief. But often that chief is themselves a scottish magnate. So it's not a highland phenomenon or a gallic phenomenon. The duke of fife is chief of the name of carnegie as i suggested. marquis of lothe is chief ofthe name of carr. oldest aldom in scotland, that of crawford.
