The Story of Two Thousand One

In story of two thousand one, there's a lunar base. There is also a space station in the movie. But we obviously haven't made any missions to go further out than our own moon - at least not with humans on board. We have sent yo unmanned spacecraft much further out but not with a human crew. The primary antagonist for two thousand one is an artificially intelligent computer system called hal. Hal goes ape and kills nearly all the crew before it is deactivated. As it's being dactivated, as it's essentially pleading for its own life. While the discipline of artificial intelligence has advanced dramatically since the 19 sixties, and we are still, as yet, not able do anything
