In 1949 when the party took power China was married in civil wars dismembered by foreign aggression. In contrast most electoral democracies around the world are suffering from dismal performance. The westerners always assumed that multiparty election with universal suffrage is the only source of political legitimacy. I'm afraid it is democracy not China's one party system that is in danger of losing legitimacy.
