Both left and right populism can flourish when there's a segment of the electorate that almost no political party bothers to campaign. If democrats and progressives don't seriously look at this part of the population, we run the danger of again creating a vacuum for some one like trump,. or another worse, right winged populice to appeal to this group. As the saying goes, if we don't talk to them, they will ye.
