What Happened to the First Trial?
She had to move out of the family home because Wilde was a bankrupt. She moved to a village called Gliang outside Montreux in Switzerland, and she took her boys with her. Despite a number of witnesses pointing to Wilde's sexual activity with men, the first trial failed. Constance very, very sadly dies at the age of 40 in Europe. It's assumed these days by historians of medicine that she was probably suffering from multiple sclerosis.
