The Problem of Pain in a Religion
Only if you believe in a religion do you face something like the problem of pain as it has been traditionally understood, he says. The ancient Greeks have a multiplicity of divinities and many of them are not nice or even friendly to human beings. So the Greek divinities are rarely friendly and then only friendly to certain special people. I would not like to have my liver gnawed continually by a vulture and I bet you wouldn't either.
