The idea of a fracturing in the conservative party, obviously, as you said, is not a modern problem. We can go al the way back to deefen baker here, where we also saw a fractured party. And his leadership career begins actually with the party massively rejecting him after world war too. So what that shows is the party is often sort of unsure which of its many instincts to indulge. Typically, it indulges each of them in turn, leaving various groups either on top or frozen out.
