The Feminist Strike

Why did the feminist movement take the form of the feminist strike? And then to define some terms, what is a strike? And what makes the feminist strike a strike? Is it invoked as a metaphor or re definition, or some of both, or something else entirely? In my book i am completely fascinated with the political process of the feminate strike.
