How Has the Haunted House Changed Over Time?

The haunted house is one of my own personal favourite gothic tropes in literature and and in films. Yet, the haunted houseis a really good example, and i think it has cha quite quite radically over time. It's nearly always associated with ancient buildings, with ruins, or with yo now abandoned places. But what i found increasingly interesting was that we are really haunted by places that have absolutely no history. And then they're much more about,. you know, the uneasy, sort of anonymous places, corridors er tunnels in in tube stations... hotels that have no history, and yet seem to leak all of these strange ghosts and monsters in their basements or in their strange interstitial spaces
