CONFLICTED
00:00
Lebanon First President, Foad Shahab
Fahabin was a lebanon first president. He united in his person the three major old aristocratic power players of lebanon. In foreign policy, shahab pledged lebanon to neutrality. But he also built a modern state that became known as shehabism. The economy was booming but there was discontent on the margins. Moslems were still angry that the christian marinites had the lion share of power. Shia were marginalized and poor, increasingly poor actually. And in general, the overheating economy was causing inflation, dislocation and inward emigration,. especially from syria. None of that discontent would have caused the civil war in 19 75.
