The Importance of Redemptive Suffering

Couldn't God have created a world that ran more like our legal system? Well, not too much like it, I hope. Nobody in the Soviet Union had legal freedom but they all had free will. And legal freedom doesn't prevent you from doing what you freely will and choose to do. It simply says what society will try to punish you for. The divine system that resembles our law is the punitive system which God has in place.
