Introduction
The Thing at Nolan was written by Ambrose Beers in 1879. It is about a family who lived on May Creek near Lee'sville, Missouri. The son of the father struck him full in the face with his fist and said he would die for it. His father later apologized but to no avail. He then left the house taking a spade after breakfast.
