The Importance of Impurity in Leviticus 16
Leviticus 16 is concerned with the removal and not just the removal, but the destruction of impurity. The blood of those sacrifices is used to purify the sanctuary, the tabernacle, the holy place. So again, the emphasis is on protecting sacred space. And really, you could summarize Leviticus 16 with a very modern term: You're hitting reset because it takes the sanctuary.
