The Paraphrase of the Penalty

An eye for an eye doesn't make the whole world blind. It's not meant to be taken literally, but rather this is a paraphrastic way of saying, Hey, when, when a crime has been committed, then the penalty that is to be exact, it should fit the crime and not should be exorbitant. The fact that I take your eye doesn't simply means that whatever the crime is, then the punishment needs to fit that fit that crime. And so at the head of both the first table and the second table of the law about murder and honoring parents, both of those are punished for the death penalty.
