We still call her Lady Jane Gray. We don't call her Queen Jane. Is this purely because it was only nine days? Do you think? What's the reason for her not being remembered as Queen Jane? I think her sovereignty, her authority was never universally accepted in the country. Mary had already declared her claim at that point. And Jane was never uncontested Queen of England. It was a claim put forward. But just because there was a legal document signed by the previous king saying he wanted her to be king and privy counselors and justices had sworn to uphold that. So I think her status is deeply contested, remains deeply contested throughout. She was proclaimed Queen in that technical sense
