Martin Luther King was asked to give a speech modeled on the Gettysburg Address of Abraham Lincoln. If he had stopped there, it would have been a decent speech, but we probably wouldn't be talking about it today,. And then he just went ex-temporaneous. That somebody in that situation would trust themselves as a minister or as an orator to just say, I'm going to wing it from here on.
