The Importance of Transporting Russian Oil
Sanctions imposed by the European Union and other Western governments ban the import of Russian oil into their countries. It's not illegal for Western companies to carry Russian oil or provide services to tankers that carry it provided it's been bought below a price cap of $60 a barrel. But what if the oil isn't price compliant? If there's any doubt the world's major insurers who are all Western won't cover that ship. Tankers have been changing hands in unprecedented numbers recently sold by well-known lines with reputations to lose to unknown lines with fortunes to make.
