Vladimir Putin was a KGB officer based in his Germany in the 1980s and he reveres the KGB. He believes that war is just like a continuation of politics and that he believes that disinformation, deception, the use of agents is very important. So when Putin launched the invasion of Ukraine I think there's no doubt at all that the role of the FSB the current Russian intelligence agency was incredibly important to spreading disinformation.
