The Origins of Matriarchy

The concept of patriarchy, whereby men exercise control and power over women, is one I'm very interested in. There are lots of different factors that feed into why a society moves towards men having more authority and women being more oppressed. And it varies depending on where you are in the world. So certainly in Europe, I would say that patriarchal beliefs and ideologies and systems are thousands of years old but then there are other parts of the world in which they're very new.
