Gas Fireplaces - No Need for Vents
Gas is virtually pure hydrocarbon, so there's almost no particulate matter coming up as smoke. A modern gas fireplace combusts the gas so completely that you might not even need any kind of vent. With a super-efficient burner, you just don't eat a vent. At least when you're not burning that much gas.
