The Importance of Crimea and the Donbas

Putin's narrative of history really, there are clear links and connections with the Russian imperial thinkers. Crimea is the only region in Ukraine where the Ukrainians don't constitute the majority ethnic Russians. The main reason for that was really geography because Crimea is a peninsula and Ukraine happens to be the mainland. Crimean had big symbolic importance in Russian culture, imperial culture.
