The chinese government announced yesterday that bajing would have a zero covet policy for at least the next five years. That set off alarm bells within china and well beyond, because the implications of sticking to that policy are absolutely massive. Every time a single case is discovered, entire cities get locked down. And that means factories inside those frozen zones get partially or totally shut down too. So reduced factory production means less supply of goods. When you have fewer goods, that generally means prices go higher, inflation goes up.
