Tropical Cyclone Season in New Zealand
The severity of these storms is relatively new to New Zealand but there are other places in the world that are quite well versed in living with tropical cyclones. Can you give us a sense of how places like Florida or Louisiana respond in the lead up to these major weather events? Yeah so prior to my arrival in New Zealand I did work in the United States at a major forecasting center over there and there's a bit of a decision tree that will be followed generally by those areas in the southern U.S. The season there starts up in June so it can be something as simple as having you know a list of emergency phone numbers identifying where you would go if you had to evacuate.
