Why Did Chartism Fail to Attain Many of Its Goals?

The Chartist movement failed to attain many of its goals. The authorities draconian reaction to chartism put people off supporting the campaign and continuing the campaign because they were genuinely worried about what was going to happen to them. People didn't get adult male suffrage until 1918 so it's understandable that when people look at the the charter in the six points they say well they didn't really secure any of them even though they campaigned over a 20 year period.
