The History of Red Baiting
The Communist Manifesto was written by Marx and Engels in the early 1800s. In it, they invoke a specter who haunts Europe as well as their political enemies. The manifesto is rich for its ability to mock both of those things while laying out an argument against them. It's also interesting because Derrida has been so influential on this kind of gothic look at Marxism.
