The Strangeness of Nuclear War
The first real peak in terms of public consciousness would have been the Cuban missile crisis. After that, we then had a ban on nuclear testing and relations were improved between us and West. In the 80s, to meet this rise in tension, there was an explosion in terrifying, chilling, popular culture films and pop songs about the horror of nuclear war. It feels to me like some of the tensions and discrepancies between the reality and between this narrative are what animate some of the strangenesses of this story.
