A witch trial emerging in a community is evidence of that community ling or some kind of breakdown. In england, one of the causal factors for the rise of witchcraft accusations is economic change. The history of witchcraft is really how afraid people were of those that they believed to be witches. And that's something which i think we can easily lose from our sense of witchcraft.
