i think possibly there's something sort of intrinsic to to how much actual value an index can bring to fiction. And it's maybe not the same as non fiction. One of these categories of books that do have indexes are ober classics, so jane austen and lord of the rings. The other category is a novel that pretends to be other things like virginia wolfes orlando t its - which she got very upset about when bookshops put it on the non fiction shelves.
