Trying to Find the Right Balance Between Punch and Splat?

Kile dredden: I tend to like my drum recordings, especially snare, to really hit your chest with some weight. Often i feel i overcook them, and the transients are fat, but almost too much punch. He wants no things he can try during the tracking and the mixing stage to find that balance between punch and splat. Kile says tape is an absolutely essential component in that sound for him.
