Evolutionary Paths of Eukaryotic Signature Proteins
All of the sampling here is modern species, right? And so we don't have fossil records here of the microbes. Vincent: It's not that there hasn't been populations of both archaea and eukaryotes over the entire stretch here. But sort of the evolutionary journeys of the genes have been very different as the species have divergedThe cells that house those genomes are called "eukaryotic signature proteins" In particular, they lift up membrane trafficking, a feature that's sort of a hallmark or signature of eukaryotic cells.
