How to Speed Run a Software Development Lifecycle

I like to contribute on day one, if possible. One thing that I often like to do pretty early on is make some kind of small code change, but then have it go through the full process of coding on my machine to deploy it in production. So just find some small change in the code that needs to be done. Maybe it's an easy bug fix or something, but just so I can walk through all the steps and find out what the team's process is. What are some sort of weird things that this team does that other people might not that I need to know about? Where does review happen? Is there a staging environment? Unexpected ways which might change might get rejected
