Is It Economically Possible to Switch From Petroleum Based Economy to Renewable Energy?

Going green could end up becoming much more expensive depending on whether or not China, you know, allows exports of these rare earth metals or the green technology. If we do start opening up more mines across the world, it'll all depend upon how efficient those mining processes are. So then you're getting to a point where you're saying, all right, does is it economically feasible to switch from a petroleum based economy and fuel source to renewable energy? Does it make sense financially?
