The Paradox of the Pope
In 1258, the court of Henry III was in turmoil. The Pope wanted to make his second son King of Sicily. But he had to pay 90,000 pounds and then send an army out to take it back from a Hohenstaufans ruler. It was probably the most ridiculous deal any King of England had ever accepted. Yet on the other hand, it didn't stop Henry being revered almost for his piety. And for the peace he'd given since Magna Carta Civil War.
