The Evolution of the Internet
In 19 93, just as internet use was really taken off, the national science foundation awarded a five year contract to a company called network solutions. Two years later, network solutions processed a hundred forty five thousand new addresses. Meanwhile, millions of users were flooding on life. No single entity was going to be able to handle such expedental growth. As the process of indexing, organizing, managing the inner net grew larger and larger with each iteration, the fundamental nature of the internets organization began to change too.
